Ranthambore is 380 km from Delhi via the Yamuna Expressway and Bharatpur, or through Jaipur and Dausa, and it is the most reliable tiger sighting in North India. Safaris run twice a day in fixed zones, booked in advance through the forest department, and the morning slot is the better of the two in most seasons. The park is closed from July to September. Beyond the tigers, Ranthambore Fort sits inside the reserve on a 700-foot outcrop, with the Trinetra Ganesh Temple that still draws pilgrims and wedding invitations posted from across India. We plan arrival the evening before the first safari, because the gates open early and a morning drive up from Delhi will not make it.
