Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Delhi → Shimla

North on NH-44 through Haryana, past Chandigarh and up the hills from Parwanoo through Solan to Shimla, arriving in time for an evening on the Mall.

  2. 7:30 AM Breakfast at Murthal The highway dhabas at Murthal are known across North India for stuffed parathas served with white butter.
  3. 11:00 AM Past Ambala and Zirakpur; the climb begins at Parwanoo

  5. 3:00 PM Arrive in Shimla, hotel check-in
  6. 5:30 PM The Mall, the Ridge and Christ Church Shimla's pedestrian heart. The Ridge is the open square at the top of the Mall, and Christ Church, built in 1857, is the landmark yellow church on it.

Tip: Vehicles are not allowed on the Mall — the car drops you at the lift or the nearest point and you walk up. Wear comfortable shoes.

Day 2

Shimla Local Sightseeing

Colonial Shimla at walking pace: the Hanuman temple on Jakhu hill, the old Viceregal Lodge, the museum and the bazaars below the Mall.

  2. 9:30 AM Jakhu Temple by ropeway The highest point in Shimla, crowned by a 33 m statue of Hanuman. The ropeway saves the steep climb. Keep glasses and food out of sight — the monkeys here snatch them.
  3. 11:30 AM Christ Church, the Gaiety Theatre and Scandal Point The neo-Gothic church, the 1887 Gaiety Theatre and the square where the Ridge meets the Mall — the centre of old Shimla.
  4. 1:00 PM Lunch on the Mall
  5. 2:30 PM Viceregal Lodge The grey-stone summer residence of the British Viceroys, now the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, with guided tours of the main hall and lawns. Small entry fee. Closed on Mondays.
  6. 4:00 PM Himachal State Museum Pahari miniature paintings, sculpture and textiles in an old colonial mansion. Closed on Mondays.
  7. 5:30 PM Lakkar Bazaar Shimla's wooden-craft market, for walking sticks, toys and carved souvenirs.

Overnight: Shimla

Tip: Most of the day is on foot; the car waits at the nearest road point. Jakhu can get crowded on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Day 3

Kufri, Fagu & Naldehra

Kufri and Fagu in the morning, then across to Naldehra's meadow and golf course in the pine forest before returning to Shimla.

  2. 9:15 AM Kufri and the Himalayan Nature Park Pony rides to the Mahasu viewpoint, snow play in winter, and a high-altitude zoo with black bear and monal pheasant. Rides and entry are paid on the spot.
  3. 12:00 PM Fagu, with lunch A ridge-top village among apple orchards with wide views over the valleys.
  4. 2:30 PM Naldehra A meadow ringed by deodar forest with one of India's oldest golf courses, laid out at the wish of Lord Curzon. Pony rides around the meadow are available.
  5. 5:30 PM Back in Shimla

Tip: Carry a warm layer — Kufri and Naldehra are cooler than Shimla, especially after sunset.

Day 4

Mashobra & Chail Excursion

Two quieter hill retreats: the forest walks of Mashobra, then Chail with its palace and the highest cricket ground in the world.

The fare is for the vehicle and not per passenger. It covers the kilometres listed for the package, measured garage to garage from our head office in Rajendra Place and back to it. Kilometres run beyond the package are charged at the per-km rate shown for the vehicle.

Parking charges are payable as per actual. A night charge of ₹400 applies if the vehicle is dropped after 11:00 PM on the final day.

Hotel accommodation, meals, monument and temple entry tickets, activity and adventure-sport tickets, and any local ride such as a helicopter, pony or palki are not part of the package.

Sightseeing and road conditions

Sightseeing is subject to the opening days and hours of each monument. We are not responsible if a monument, temple or park is closed on the day of your visit.

In some places the local taxi union does not allow outside vehicles for local sightseeing — in Ladakh, and for Rohtang Pass in Manali. There, the local sightseeing is done in a local taxi, paid separately.

Journey times may be affected by traffic, police or administrative restrictions, VIP movement, processions, strikes or road works, and we are not responsible for delays or itinerary changes caused by them.

In the event of a landslide, flood, heavy snowfall, earthquake or any other natural occurrence that closes a road or a monument, we are not responsible for the resulting delay, detour or cancellation. Any additional running or halt on that account is charged as per actual.
